Your first scan

Your first scan

pregrenet

At MMH Hospital, we understand that the first ultrasound is more than a scan—it's a glimpse into the miracle growing within you. Here’s what to expect as we guide you through these early stages with care and expertise.

First Ultrasound
  • Timing: We typically perform the first scan 5 days after your missed period, around the 35th day of a regular 30-day cycle. It’s an exciting time when possibilities become real.
  • Method: This scan is done using a transvaginal ultrasound (USG), allowing us to see the tiny gestational sac, the first sign of your baby’s presence.
Follow-Up Scans
  • 37th Day: A week later, we’ll perform another scan, and you should see the yolk sac nestled inside the gestational sac. It’s a small but significant step forward.
  • 40th Day: Just a few days after that, we can often detect the flicker of a heartbeat. It’s a magical moment, marking the start of your baby’s journey.
Monitoring Development
  • If these developments aren’t visible, we may need to explore other possibilities, such as an ectopic pregnancy, where the baby forms outside the uterus. At MMH Hospital, our dedicated team will support you with beta hCG blood tests and frequent ultrasounds to monitor the situation closely. We’re here to ensure you have the information and care you need every step of the way.
  • In some instances, the gestational sac may grow without a heartbeat, indicating a potential miscarriage. We’re here to provide compassionate support and guidance during such difficult times.
Confirmation
  • Early scans also help us confirm whether you’re expecting one baby or more, like twins. Whatever the outcome, we’re committed to being your trusted partner throughout this journey.
  • At MMH Hospital, we’re with you from the first scan, ensuring that you and your baby are supported with our comprehensive care and heartfelt understanding.
